Port Phillip People Love Our Streets. But do Port Phillip Candidates?
Streets People Love brings together local residents’ amenity and environmental needs – to create safe and pleasant streets for people to live, work, play and move in – something that a new council could deliver.
The following candidates agree:
It’s not about putting pedestrians, wheelchairs, scooters & cyclists ahead of people wanting parking for a third vehicle – or putting residents’ needs over traders’ fears.
It’s about restoring a balance in good urban planning in our high density community – making it safe for kids to travel to school again – creating better shopping villages – and delivering natural canopy to cool our suburbs.
Increasing greenery, including tree planting and pocket park projects, not only makes our streets more pleasant for residents to use but helps cool neighbourhoods and resting spaces, as well as residents moving around by foot, scooter, bicycle and public transport.
Everyone should be consulted and everyone should benefit.
The Streets People Love Pledge:
“If elected Councillor, I pledge to allocate budget and street space to build streets people love, and ensure that residents of all ages and abilities can safely move around our council area, irrespective of whether they choose to walk, cycle, wheel, use public transport or drive.”
